Hello! We’re back with season two of Small Business Spoonfuls! In this episode Mason and I are discussing the differences between independent contractors and employees. We debunk the myth of the 1099-Employee and explain why the new “gig economy” has the Department of Labor and IRS so worried!
Small Business Spoonfuls with Lisa Smith
Hi! I'm Lisa Smith. My hubby and I are small business owners kind of like you. Between our businesses, my consulting work, and my work as an auditor, I am bringing over 25 years experience to this podcast. I'm also a pretty big case law junkie. I read this crazy legal stuff to the point of exhaustion some days. Why? Well, because I love the whole story and I want to share the nuggets I uncover with you. I have also sat in the seat of the business that is being audited due to an employee complaint. I'll share that story with you as we go. For years I have received email asking questions about employee management, compliance, and human resources in general. I answer these personally and in my classrooms across the country I have been able to develop a systematic approach to surviving an audit, inspection, or lawsuit. Now, I have discovered a way to answer your questions in one easy to click forum; this podcast!
In Season 2, I am introducing Mason Merrell. Mason is the latest addition to our team at BeAuditSecure.com and he will be co-hosting twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays). We are bringing you a 10 to15 minute Q and A session on the subjects you care about, as a small business employer or manager. We will discuss employee-related problems and human resources (HR) compliance news. We are excited to answer your questions about processing payroll or preparing for an IRS audit. We will even address employee lawsuits and Department of Labor (DOL) inspections and tell you how to prepare to survive them BEFORE they become a reality.
So, tune in and give us 10-15 minutes to answer the questions that you have today and the others you will have tomorrow! Thanks for tuning in to Small Business Spoonfuls. Send us your questions and we will talk to you soon!
